LE SALON D’AUTOMNE

Exhibition Kojiro Akagi

The great artist Kojiro Akagi, whom Jacques Chirac considered "the most Parisian of Japanese painters", left us in February 2021 at the age of 87, in Japan. His work is considerable. He leaves behind him six decades of watercolours and oil paintings in red thread almost exclusively devoted to Paris.

He entered the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris in the 1960s and was a member of the great Parisian Salons such as the Salon d'Automne, the Salon des Indépendants, the Salon National des Beaux-Arts... His artistic identity was forged by his ability to bring out the details of the city of Paris and provoke admiration for its charming views.

To date, his works are present in more than 20 museums and art institutions around the world: the Carnavalet Museum, the Royal Ueno Museum and the Kyoto Prefectural Museum of Culture. His works are also in the collections of the Japanese Embassy, the Trocadero Library and Okayama University... and this prestigious list is far from complete.

The exhibition "PARIS JE T'AIME! FOR ETERNITY..." - A Tribute to Kojiro Akagi brings together more than 20 works dedicated to the different districts of Paris and its suburbs. The exhibition follows the path of the visionary artist who, over the course of 60 years of constant work with brushes and paints, created his own method and technique which you will discover during the exhibition.
