LE SALON D’AUTOMNE

Thoughts for Jacques Villeglé

"Art would also be, or first of all, that which makes us see the reality we have before our eyes" Jacques Villeglé

A great artist has left us, Jacques Villeglé, born 27 March 1926 in Quimper, died 6 June 2022 in Paris.
Painter, sculptor, creator of torn posters, whose beauty he rendered in a new aesthetic, his works have been exhibited in museums and galleries on five continents.
With the art critic Pierre Restany and the Lettrist poet François Dufrêne, he became a member of the Nouveaux Réalistes group in 1954, which included Raymond Hains, Yves Klein, Jean Tinguely and Niki de Saint Phalle.
A committed man, a witness to an era, he expressed a political, humanist and anti-establishment message through his work.
Chaired by Sylvie Koechlin, he was the Honorary Patron of the Salon d'Automne 2017, accompanied by the influential visual artists who were our Guests of Honour, Yvon Taillandier and Ambroise Monod.

For the creation of the beautiful poster of the Salon d'Automne 2017, he used a singular, original graphic design, inspired by his "socio-political" writing, of which he declines signs, symbols, images, poetic and sensitive stories...
He offered us a superb calligraphy dedicated to the Salon d'Automne, published in the 2017 catalogue.
We send his daughter, Valérie Villeglé, his family and his loved ones our sincere condolences and our sincere friendship, with shared memories of his kindness, his humour and his elegant appearance.
